    Background:

Toby is a meditation and mindfulness coach with over twenty years of experience in teaching meditation. Toby is also an artist and spent 5 years as a Buddhist monk in the Tibetan tradition!

Toby is truly one of the foremost names in the local mindfulness scene. He is the founder of Integral Meditation Asia, a company dedicated to helping people and organisations find greater degrees of well-being and fulfilment through mindfulness practice, and is the author of the book ‘Engaged Mindfulness’.

He currently facilitates the mindfulness program for the MBA’s at the INSEAD School of Business, Singapore campus. Organizations he has worked with include both government organizations in Singapore as well as numerous SME’s and MNC’s.

When he is not coaching, teaching or writing about mindfulness, you might find Toby painting, playing squash, meditating or spending time with his daughter and the people and friends he loves.

What first drew you to meditation, or contemplative practice?

Meditation – Hearing the Tibetan book of the Dead read on the radio when I was 11 years old, reading the Tao te Ching by Lao Tzu at 18years old. Reading the Tibetan book of living & dying by Sogyal Rinpoche in my last year of art school.

Why does creating space for rest and awareness feel important today?

Having energy that feels sustainable and strong makes everything else in life 100% easier, so strategic restorative/regenerative activity is a foundation for an effective & enjoyable life. Awareness is the act & skill upon which everything else in our life depends. When we make the time to improve the quality, depth & breadth of our awareness we become more capable, adaptable & resilient.

What do you invite participants to experience during your sessions?

Ways of bringing body, mind, heart & spirit into a state of integration & mutual support, leading to a state of balanced wholeness.

What does “a space to simply be” mean to you?

The place where you always are, but sometimes (oftentimes?) you forget you are!

How do you cultivate moments of presence or rest in your daily life?

Formal meditation, napping, enjoying movement practice, gardening. Seeing all activities in the day as aspects of ‘meditation in action’ or ‘spirit in action’…
