Joseph is a dedicated practitioner and teacher of the internal martial arts. He began his training in Chen style Xinyi Hunyuan Taijiquan in 1993 under the guidance of Harrison Moretz at the Taoist Studies Institute in Seattle, WA. Joseph is a 20th generation Chen Style Taijiquan and 3rd generation Hunyuan Taijiquan disciple.

A lifelong teacher, Joseph has been teaching Taijiquan and Qigong for over two decades.

Joseph’s passion is to help students cultivate the internal martial arts and to transmit the genuine nature of what he has learned. Part of what motivates his love of teaching is seeing the delight that students have, when they begin to understand something that was not apparent to them before.

Joseph offers classes and personal instruction in:

  • Hunyuan Qigong
  • Chansi Gong
  • Chen Style Taijiquan
  • Meditation (standing & seated)

Chenshi Xinyi Hunyuan Taijiquan (陳式心意混元太極拳) is a style of Taijiquan developed by Grandmaster Feng Zhi Qiang (馮志強). Feng was the disciple of two great masters, Hu Yao Zhen (胡耀貞) and Chen Fa Ke (陳發科). Hu Yao Zhen was a famous Chinese medicine doctor, Taoist Qigong and Xinyi Quan (心意拳) master who was considered by many to be the father of modern Qigong. Chen Fa Ke was a 17th generation grandmaster of Chen style Taijiquan.

Hunyuan Taijiquan blends traditional Chen style Taijiquan with elements of Xinyi Quan and Taoist Qigong methods into a comprehensive system, bringing Taijiquan back to its original roots in Qigong.

The advantage of a private session is that the material can be individually tailored to your specific goals. In the group classes, the method is designed to accommodate everybody. In a private class, the material is fine tuned to enhance one’s natural strengths and to resolve any challenges that may pop up during the course of training more quickly. I am always available to consult and see if private sessions are appropriate.
